[LinkedinBlogger] ADMIN: Ending a Conversation, Starting the MLPF RAP Group!

Because I want to help keep MLPF the most valuable
place on the Internet for you to learn about Linkedin
and because I don't want to be culpable in suppressing
your rights to free speech in talking about religion
and politics, I've set up the MLPF RAP Group!

No, it's not a "rap" group!  You don't have to worry
about "gittin' jiggy wit it"! :-)

MLPF RAP is a place for MLPF members who want to rap
about Religion And Politics to talk - as MUCH as they
want.

To be clear: MLPF does not suppress free speech - it
narrows free speech to the subject at hand.   MLPF's
mission is to focus on helping Linkedin members to
power up their networking through lively discussion,
tools, and techniques related to our use of
Linkedin.com as a networking/referral platform.

MLPF-RAP is a place for members of MLPF to come and
talk about Religion and Politics until they are blue
in the face.  (And that is not to be prejudicial
against any other colors in the spectrum of human face
colors! :-))

Talk as much as you want about Religion.

Talk as much as you want about Politics.

If your blood boils about something, let it help you
to write out your true feelings.

But, as MLPF members, I encourage you to try to
convert all your conversations into a positive
conclusion.  (After all, we're still about networking.
And networking is about building up, not tearing
down.)

Because you will be able to say what you want about
religion and politics, and anything else here on MLPF
RAP, this site will NOT be an RSS site.  (It is for
your own networking protection to keep your religious
and political views as private as we can make them
here in this MLPF RAP group!)

Come!  RAP to your heart's delight on MLPF RAP!

[LinkedinBlogger] Seeking Recommendations for Networker of the Month for July 2005

I realize that we're already on day 12 of the month of
July but, I thought I'd seek your input for anyone you
see who might be N.E.T.W.O.R.K.I.N.G. the right way.

I'd like to be clear: This is not about social
science.  It's about our mutual INSPIRATION - It's
about whether someone has created a favorable enough
impression on us for us to express it publicly - and
to help keep us going in our networking on days when
we may feel too drained to continue on our own.

Here are the 10 N.E.T.W.O.R.K.I.N.G. criteria I'd
prefer to work with but I'm open to others which you
feel are more compelling:

1. Network - Does the person have or intend to have a
vibrantly alive network?

2. Energy - Does the person let their energy shine
through their creativity & knowledge?

3. Thoughtfulness - Is the person THOUGHTFUL in
sharing with others?

4. Work - Does the person DO GOOD QUALITY WORK?

5. Organization - Is the person organized enough to
minimize wasting other networkers’ time?

6. Recruiting - Can the person recruit a wide variety
of people to hold the network together?

7. Knowledge - Does the person have current & relevant
knowledge of the networking field?

8. Interdependence - Does the person work well
independently as well as with others?

9. Nurturance - Does the person add value &
encouragement to the people in their network?

10. Givers Gain - Does the person use giving as a way
of networking for life?

I'd like to invite you to join me in bringing good
networkers to the attention of My Linkedin Power
Forum.

Please send your private recommendations to me at
either:

MyLinkedinPowerForum-owner AT yahoogroups.com

or

Vincent AT MyLinkedinPowerForum.com

[LinkedinBlogger] COURTESY Ratings for Snippers who SNIP was Re: Responsiveness ratings for Forwarders and Contacts

Does anyone here care to advance a civil means of
getting the professionals on this forum to simply snip
their messages?

It's amazing to me that such brilliant men and women -
men and women who can solve all kinds of issues and
demonstrate such beautiful thinking skills - cannot
self-moderate on such a simple subject as snipping
messages.

At a certain level, isn't snipping also demonstrative
of your concern, your respect for others?  If nothing
else, snipping your messages is an exercise in
thoughtfulness.

And is it possible to be a good networker without
being proficient at such simple graces as courtesy?
Concern? Respect? Thoughtfulness?

Out of courtesy and respect for you, I've snipped the
5,226 characters in the unsnipped messages that
generated this plea.

Thanks!

More good news, Everyone! :-)

Joe Bartling has agreed to let me offer all new MLPF
members his book, "How To Double Your Income in Six
Months Using LinkedIn"!

Joe has done an outstanding job in introducing us to
networking via the Linkedin way.  And he's done it in
a succinct, yet sensible and clear style.  Very easy
to read and very informative.

As mentioned in my earlier introduction of Joe's book,
"if you haven't already done so, I strongly, strongly,
strongly  encourage you to read the book!!  Within 90
minutes with it, you'll  feel better about your
knowledge of Linkedin!"

A few other ways of getting to Joe's book:

1. Go to the Files section on My Linkedin Power
Forum and look for  the PDF for "How to Double Your
Income in 6 Months Using Linkedin" or

2. Patiently and carefully cut and paste the long

[LinkedinBlogger] Linkedin Montage at Montage-a-Google

Here's one for those of you who may be more visually
oriented than text oriented.

Grant Robinson's Montage-a-Google permits you to
search Google based on images.

The difference?

It builds the search results into a montage.

Once the montage is created, you'll be able to click
on different parts of the montage to look at search
results.

I typed in the word "LinkedIn" and entertained myself
for a lot longer than I'm gonna admit! :-)

Here's the URL:
http://grant.robinson.name/projects/montage-a-google/

Try it! - You'll like it!

[LinkedinBlogger] MLPF Official Group on Linkedin!!

Hi, Everyone,
Many of you have privately and publicly asked me about
My Linkedin Power Forum becoming an officially
recognized Linkedin group. Of course, being an
officially recognized Linkedin group would allow us to
use our group icon on Linkedin to help our ~1,500 MLPF
members to more easily recognize and network with each
other on Linkedin.

Well, there’s a lot of new Linkedin power coming your
way!!  I'm happy to bring to your attention a note
from Linkedin positively addressing this issue, at
last!

In a message written to MLPF by Robert Leathern,
LinkedIn Director of Marketing, we were told:

<snip>"MLPF should have its own LinkedIn group quite
soon, it is in process (one thing to keep in mind is
that groups are launched on a two-week cycle)." Robert
Leathern, LinkedIn Director of Marketing<snip> For
your reference this message is in our archives at MLPF
Message 4463 Fri Jul 1, 2005 9:47 pm From that date
stamp, I believe we should be officially up and
running by July 15th!!

Immediately upon our receiving the instructions on
setting up the group on Linkedin, we will share the
appropriate link with you.   Of course, as members of
MLPF, to make it easy for you to become a member of
the official MLPF group on Linkedin, you will
automatically receive your invitation the same day.

NOTE: We encourage you to invite friends, family, and
business associates who may need a business or career
boost to join us both here on My Linkedin Power Forum
as well as join our official group on Linkedin
because, "Our business is bringing Linkedin power to
business!"

I look forward to helping you to power up the Linkedin
way!

My Linkedin Power Forum is del.icio.us!  :-)

For those of you who use del.icio.us to keep track of
your bookmarks/bookmarklets, please visit us here:
http://del.icio.us/MyLinkedinPowerForum

Please NOTE: The del.icio.us URL does not have a .com
or .edu etc., associated with its address.

For those of you not yet familiar with this intriguing
little bit of technology, below is a brief overview
from del.icio.us:

About del.icio.us
"» del.icio.us is a social bookmarks manager. It
allows you to easily add sites you like to your
personal collection of links, to categorize those
sites with keywords, and to share your collection not
only between your own browsers and machines, but also
with others.

» Once you've registered for the service, you add a
simple bookmarklet to your browser (see below). When
you find a web page you'd like to add to your list,
you simply select the del.icio.us bookmarklet, and
you'll be prompted for a information about the page.
You can add descriptive terms to group similar links
together, modify the title of the page, and add
extended notes for yourself or for others.

» You can access your list of links from any web
browser. By default, your links are shown to you in
reverse chronological order, with those you've added
most recently at the top. In addition to viewing by
date, you can also view all links in a specific
category (you define your own categories as you add
the links), or search your links for keywords.

» What makes del.icio.us a social system is its
ability to let you see the links that others have
collected, as well as showing you who else has
bookmarked a specific site. You can also view the
links collected by others, and subscribe to the links
of people whose lists you find interesting."

Isn't life del.icio.us? :-)

[LinkedinBlogger] Givers Gain + MyJobGenius is now MyJobTIGER!

On June 17th, I was surprised by a gift to me of a 3
year old, 620 member jobs group on Yahoo called
MyJobGenius.

Because I still have an inordinately high level of
passion for recruiting and coaching, I gladly accepted
the jobs group.

Imagine!  With all the groups I've given away, someone
gave ME a group!:-)

I changed the group's name to MyJobTIGER in order to
help motivate job seekers to help themselves by
focusing on one of my favorite acronymic mantras:
Today, I'll Get Even Richer!

I created this little acronym to foster a mentality
that has nothing to do with greed - but everything to
do with prospering in your career and in your life.

I’ve made the name change not merely because of new
ownership of the group but because of the great
importance of attitude in conducting a timely and
successful job search for you and your family.

Your job search is no time to be timid, meek, shy, a
lamb. Today, you must focus, focus, focus on finding
the right opportunity for you and your family. You
must be more assertive than you may have been
comfortable being in the past.

And while this may not be comfortable for you to
contemplate, as an experienced recruiter and career
coach, I've seen too many wonderfully talented people
miss out on great career opportunities by not trying
their best – every day – for at least 4 hours per day.
Your job search must be your job until your search
finds you a job.

You should work at it with the same assertiveness,
professionalism, concentration, and intensity of
purpose as you would if you were working as an
apprentice for Donald Trump. You must be relentless.
You must be focused. You must be strong. You must be a
tiger. And you must motivate yourself by saying things
to yourself such as, "Today, I'll Get Even Richer.
Today, I'll be a TIGER in my job search!

(NOTE: We know about those professionals who don't
like the word "must". But let's be realistic for a
moment: You MUST ignore them until you get the job you
MUST have in order to pay the rent. Once you have that
job, you, too, can become a person who no longer
believes in "must".)

Please visit the Files area for complementary
databases and career search materials. We encourage
you to join and invite friends and co-workers to join
us by sending an email to:
myjobtiger-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

This is one of the few non-Linkedin-specific groups I
own.  It is NOT to compete with either Linkedin nor
with My Linkedin Power Forum.  Indeed, I see them
working quite nicely together.   If it desires to do
so, Linkedin management is also encouraged to share
jobs there, too.

It is not a socializing group.  It is only for people
who are ready to do the hard work to find the right
job.   Therefore, responsible recruiters are welcomed
to post jobs there.

Those things being said, because I really want to help
people get jobs in shorter time frames, the email
volume on MyJobTIGER, in all likelihood, will be LOTS
HIGHER than on My Linkedin Power Forum!!

Thanks, and "Go get 'em, T.I.G.E.R."!

Linkedin: Much Ado About A Million Or Two

A Brief Meditative Contemplation About Extraordinary Potential

I think Linkedin is better than Linkedin thinks it is.

Surprising statement perhaps. But bear with me for a moment.

You see I believe I look at Linkedin a bit differently than most people do.

I haven’t talked with Linkedin about specific numbers and I intentionally didn’t invest the time to do exhaustive research on specific numbers.

Those two things aside, let’s take some very broad numbers and contemplate some things that make them worth considering. Things that make you go, “Hmmmm!!!” At least they do that for me! :-)

If we say that Linkedin is a networking environment for business professionals and then say that the average Linkedin member has 10 years of experience and then say that there are now 2.5 million users, that’s a total of 25 MILLION YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE!

Sitting there.

Sort of like oil fields, or goldmines, or spice islands, or “acres of diamonds”.

Just sitting there.

Hmmmm!!!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if my memory serves me correctly, I believe it only took 962 person years to build New York’s Empire Station Building.

If there are 25 Million years worth of experience on Linkedin, that could mean:

hundreds of thousands of years of business building experience
thousands of years of artistic experience
thousands of years of computer experience
thousands of years of entertainment experience
thousands of years of medical experience
thousands of years of nonprofit experience
thousands of years of scientific experience
thousands upon thousands of years of communication experience
thousands upon thousands of years of executive leadership experience
thousands upon thousands of years of problem resolution experience
hundreds of thousands of years of teaching & coaching & counseling experience
MILLIONS of years of networking experience

Hmmmm!!! I wonder what would happen if those thousands, if those hundreds of thousands, if those thousands upon thousands, if those MILLIONS of years of experience could talk, could communicate, could be put to SOME USE?

I wonder and I wonder and I wonder!!!

Hmmmm!!!

My Linkedin Power Forum Announces My Linkedin Power TEAM!

Yahoo! Groups : MyLinkedinPowerForum Messages : Message 1555 of 1570: "Announces
My Linkedin Power Team
4.18.2005

In the spirit of networking, I am happy to announce the creation of a small group to help in the growth, nurturance, and direction of My Linkedin Power Forum!

This group will help in the creation of guiding principles, documentation, and polls to help My Linkedin Power Forum reach consensus of opinion on matters pertaining to Linkedin, networking in general, and My Linkedin Power Forum in particular.

The team will help us maximize the great window of opportunity we have to nurture our careers and businesses via Linkedin.

Konstantin Guericke has not only given his blessing to the creation of the new leadership team but has offered to do a teleconference with the group on Wednesday, April 27th at 3 PM PST. (The group membership will be finalized by then and will be announced here. However, theres still room for one or two more so please let me know if you have 2+ hours a month to help out.)

Im hoping that this will turn into a dream team of Linkedin evangelists and networking generalists to help us power up our networking through the best usage of My Linkedin Power Forum.

"L.O.N.D.O.N." (Lots Of NETWORKING Develops Our Networks)

My networking friends,
Let's think of L.O.N.D.O.N. when we think of our networks because without NETWORKING, I'm of the mind that networks can't develop much of any thing.

But, rather, let's you and I, my friends, be in a "L.O.N.D.O.N." frame of mind, because,

"Lots Of NETWORKING Develops Our Networks"

And when Lots Of NETWORKING Develops Our Networks, our networks can develop lots of ANY thing!! J

Arnnei Speiser of Mega AS Consulting Ltd, has created a

the favor by helping him come up with a name for it. This

set up alphabetically with the first name of the creator +
their suggestions alphabetized. Though I suggested more

My Networking Passion(s)

Earlier today, someone asked me what are my passions

That's a GREAT question!

But it would be unfair to you for me to list all my passions since, in general, I'm passionate about the whole experience of life. I wish to emphasize that that statement is not mere hyperbole. But for the sake of simplicity and to focus on business, the top passions on the top of my head this morning are these:

1. My Linkedin Power Forum - I'm happy to have gotten over 500 exceptional men and women from around the world to join me there to discuss all manner of networking according to the Linkedin model. Stop by and introduce yourself!
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyLinkedinPowerForum/

2. The 'Working' part of Networking - Yes, I'm one of those. I'm endlessly passionate about working. For want of a better term, I easily qualify as a workaholic. But those who haven't really experienced it for at least a little part of their lives may be missing just the thing they need to resolve unresolved issues. Thus, I work not just for the money, but for the purpose.

3. Encouragement/Enthusiasm/Motivation/Empowerment - These are my loves in business because they all involve loving people. And loving people is what all business is about or else it is about nothing.

4. Yoga - Yoga saved my life at the end of my teen years. It's been a dear friend since. Even as I tried to explain to my Christian friends that the two are complementary to each other - not antagonistic. (Too complex to resolve here.)

5. Music - Music is a blessing. And I love the full spectrum it when the artist performing is sincere and non-egocentric
I included the last two because though they are not directly about business for me, they do flavor all business I do.

WONDERFUL question and thanks for asking!

Ecademy's Thomas Power PREFERS Linkedin OVER Ecademy!!

I just noticed something that's pretty startling to me: According to his Linkedin profile, Thomas Power, Chairman of Ecademy, seems to prefer LINKEDIN as his networking vehicle of choice!!

WOW!!!

Bear with me for a minute and read this entire little 60 second essay, ok?

I mean, though about 7 months ago I paid for an Ecademy PowerNetworker membership which runs out in August 2005, this revelation by Thomas Power caught me completely off guard!

And now I'm beginning to think I should have spent the past 7months focusing on building up my network on the same platform one of the most successful people in the field actually USES to build his own networking empire!

Because if ANYONE knows how to really compare Ecademy vs. Linkedin, it should be the Founder who owns Ecademy but who, according to the numbers, prefers Linkedin so much that he's worked VERY hard and devoted LOTS of his business time building the largest of his public networks by a margin of almost 2 to 1 contacts ON Linkedin - not Ecademy!!

WOW!!!

And since Thomas Power is well-known for his penchant for making more money, more money, more money, that says a LOT about the money making potential you, too, could find right now, right on Linkedin– FOR FREE!!! :-)

Now, I'm not the most brilliant man in the world, but if the number one networker on Linkedin who just happens to own a major competitor like Ecademy, labors to build SIX THOUSAND connections on a competitor's platform and has only 3,000 or so on his own competing platform where everybody knows his name, I'm going to follow his lead and also emphasize Linkedin over Ecademy so that I can make more money, too!! Wouldn't you?? Especially when I consider that Linkedin has 2 Million members AND – did I say? – it's FREE!!

I may be missing something here, so I'd LOVE to have your feedback on this.

Else, Linkedin networking*, here I come!!

Thanks, Thomas!

* By "networking", the author strongly wishes to imply and, indeed, EMPHASIZE true, "givers gain" networking that consists of actual communication and sharing among the business people in the network.

APRIL Is Linkedin Month!

What do you need in order to make APRIL your best month ever on Linkedin and in your business/career?

Do you need to have a bigger network or even the biggest network on Linkedin?

Or would your personal situation be better served if you found justone person during April who could help you move your business oryour career forward? To get you on solid ground? Just in time forSPRING!!

Think about it!

Vote on it if you will.

And THEN - let's go on a search TOGETHER – for the entire month of APRIL to help find you "A Powerful Relationship in Linkedin!"

I'm visualizing this as a good exercise for you professionally and as a good exercise in authentic networking for the members of MyLinkedin Power Forum - possibly as a group activity.I think most members here would love to help someone else find "APowerful Relationship In Linkedin"! With that in mind, during the two weeks leading up to April, you should try to find a Linkedin Teammate among the members of MyLinkedin Power Forum. - Or elsewhere, if you choose. :-( -

Remember, Linkedin is a BIG playground. So, having someone help you search can dramatically shorten your search time while increasing your effectiveness in finding what you need. And isn't that the core principle, the heart of networking? Working WITH someone else? Consider having a pal, a friend, a buddy, an accomplice, a partner, a mate, a sibling, an offspring, a parent to help you navigate Linkedin for a month. The month of "A.P.R.I.L."

(For my Linkedin jazz friends, in homage to Dizzy Gillespie andCharlie Parker, I call this concept BEBOP: "Bigger Earnings Based OnPartnering".)

{BTW: Please know that whenever I use the word "power", I never mean to imply power `over" someone but rather power "WITH" someone. I always mean power in that sense – only.}

If anyone would like a poll on what "A Powerful Relationship InLinkedin" should be, please feel free to work with someone to put it up in the poll section on My Linkedin Power Forum.

Thanks, and I look forward to having "A Powerful Relationship InLinkedin" with you in APRIL!

The Art of Humane Rejections/Declinations

As many of you may recall, I recently posted a note to the group titled "Fear And Risk". The sense I was trying to convey in that post was the need, - the absolute urgent need - for us to become "expert askers".

I believe firmly that we need to practice asking much as a musician needs to practice scales before performing.

Yet, with that belief being firmly established in my views about networking, I also think we should applaud those people who know how to structure a humane rejection or declination when we find ourselves asking things prematurely or immaturely.

Thus, I wanted to provide you with an example of a humane rejection I received from someone that had so much of the right stuff in it, that I must admit, it made me smile - not because I love being rejected - but, rather, because there's no indication in the rejection that he was rejecting or devaluing me as a human being.

So, with approval of the gentleman who rejected my request, I want to share with you the note below. Not one note has been changed in it. And bear in mind, I like this rejection not because of its diction or grammatical superiority or any other such linguistic superficiality. I like it because I knew something of the person rejecting me - having seen him give and give and give of himself in another group he and I have belonged to for about 4 or 5 years. And sure enough one of my favorite givers demonstrated that his giving comes from a genuine, an authentically humane place inside. And in addition to the rejection below, he's also done favors for me that he's completely unaware of. I will never fault myself for trying to accelerate a friendship with such an authentically humane man and absolve myself of all shame for my premature attempt.
_____________________________________________________________________
"I will be more than happy to write an endorsement for you. In order to do you justice though, I think it wise to wait a bit so I get to know you and what you are most effective in even better.
To accelerate this, I will read all I can about you in your forum and elsewhere.
Thank you for all of your support and efforts on my behalf. I hope you see value for your investment in the near future."
_____________________________________________________________________

That's the entirety of the rejection.

And though it's short, the sense of of sheer thoughtfulness in it makes me want to roll my sleeves up to befriend my rejector whenever he needs any support I can provide.

I want to be clear that I'm saying this not as a sycophant but rather as someone who appreciates the strength it takes to be a gentleman in an age when being a gentleman seems to be a dying badge of honor.

Thank you!

You're Invited to My Linkedin Power Forum!

If you're an online networker or want to learn more about how to be one, I invite you to stop by and introduce yourself to My Linkedin Power Forum!

The purpose of My Linkedin* Power Forum is to help Linkedin users to power up their networking in order to do business better.

To do business better, we need to communicate better.

To do business better, we need to communicate faster.

To do business better, we need to communicate with more confidence and with less stress.

In his book, “Unlimited Power”, Tony Robbins accurately describes power when he says, “Communication is power.” And the corollary of course is “Power is communication”.

At 2 million users, Linkedin represents a LOT of potential power.

Thus, the main thing we work on in My Linkedin Power Forum is communicating the right thing the right way at the right time to the right people for the right purpose.

We hope to find, collect, and share 100 right ways to help you:
1. Forward requests faster (by having pre-made requests that you can use without sounding so plastic that you alienate the people you need to attract)

2. Decline uncomfortable requests faster (and without losing a relationship that might be of value to you)

3. Build and strengthen your Linkedin network by searching more effectively and by taking good care of those already in your network

4. Use basic checklist points to help you to decide more quickly and with less stress a.)whether or not to forward or b.)whether you should reach out to connect

5. Profit in multiple ways from your networking: financially, intellectually, artistically, etc.

At least once a week, we'll post articles, forms, and links to help empower your Linkedin networking. (Check the files section.)

THANKS - and come join us at "My Linkedin Power Forum"!
